FAQ

Chemical peels are exfoliating treatments that cause your skin to peel or flake to shed dead or damaged surface cells and reveal new and healthy skin in a process called cell turnover. By using chemical peels to kickstart cell turnover, your skin will appear fresh and free of the signs of aging, sun damage, dirt, and debris.
At Aspen Aesthetics we use PCA SKIN peels. PCA SKIN Peels are even more advanced treatments that are scientifically formulated to gently stimulate, firm, and tighten skin. These progressive, in-office treatments are gentle and produce visible, proven results. Our aestheticians will assess your skin for the perfect PCA SKIN peel to give you a more beautiful, healthy complexion.

These advanced corrective, clinically researched formulations in PCA SKIN peels have a plethora of benefits for your skin, such as:

  • Treats acne and blemishes
  • Dehydrated and dry skin
  • Reduces the depth of fine lines & wrinkles
  • Anti-Aging
  • Smoothens skin
  • Evens skin tone and diminishes redness
  • Brightens dark spots
  • Minimal to No downtime, unlike many other peels

Once you are comfortable, we will gently cleanse your face to remove any traces of makeup, moisturizer, sunscreen and other substances. Your skin will be degreased and then your esthetician will apply the peel over your skin. After a few passes over the skin, the peel will have been successfully applied. You may experience mild burning or stinging, but this will eventually subside. We then place a red LED light over your face and perform a luxurious hand and arm massage while the chemical peel completely deactivates. We will apply corrective serums and sunscreen. You will be given post-treatment products and instructions on how to care for your skin over the coming week.

It really depends on the peel that was administered. It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions given by your aesthetician in order to ensure the effectiveness of the peel and to avoid any possible complications.

There is little to no downtime with PCA chemical peels. You can actually receive a peel on your lunch hour and return to work! Your skin will be glowing and possibly show very slight redness, but it will not interfere with your daily activities.

Everyone’s experience will be different. Patients typically experience flaking for two or three days following the treatment, though it is possible to see flaking for up to five or six days. It is important to avoid picking at the flaky skin because this can lead to hyperpigmentation or scarring. We offer a Post-Care Kit that has everything you need to care for your skin after your treatment. You will want to avoid direct sunlight for 1–2 weeks, and avoid letting your skin become too warm from other stimuli such as hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, or excessive, sweaty exercise.

You won’t necessarily experience visible peeling, but this doesn’t mean your treatment was ineffective. Everyone experiences different levels of peeling depending on their skin type, resilience, type of peel, and the number of layers applied. Some people experience ‘sheeting,’ which occurs when large portions of the skin peel off at once, while others may experience ‘flaking,’ where small pieces of skin peel off. And if you don’t peel, your skin is still exfoliating. In this case, the exfoliation is happening on a cellular level that can’t be seen by the naked eye.
